Trick or Treat Tips

Halloween can be one of the most joyous and memorable days of your life if you are wise and safe. Here are some tips that will help you stay safe and get as much candy as possible.

(1) Wear bright reflective costumes so you can easily be seen while crossing the street. Avoid dark costumes that camoflauge you in the night. You could also carry a glow stick so you are noticed more, but a reflective costume should be enough.

(2) Choose makeup over masks. Visibility is much better while wearing makeup. With a mask your vision is determined by the eye holes in the mask and after an hour you are sweating bullets from the heat inside. With makeup you are cool and comfortable.

(3) Check your candy. While there are very few incidents of people tampering with candy they hand out, there is always a possibility. Never take unwrapped candy or food and always check your candy before you eat it.

(4) Trick or Treat With an adult. It may be fun and adventerous to trick or treat by yourself with a friend or solo. But it's still dangerous. My suggestion is to have your parent or guardian drive as you go from one house to the other. After you are tired of one street, you can hop into the car and decide where you would like to go next.

(5) Bring a massive bag. If you are serious about Trick or Treating like I was when I was a kid then bring a massive bag to carry that load of candy you'll be recieving. It may be cool to buy a bucket shaped like a pumpkin or skull. But that's not going to help you carry a large amount of candy. I suggest a large pillow sack or even a large plastic bag. If you are using a parents car to haul your candy make sure to keep a couple grochery bags handy.

(6) Plan your route. Make sure that the areas you are trick or treating at are well lit and safe.

(7) The richer the area, the better the candy. While this is not always true, it's usually the case 75% of the time. You will find that the nicer the area the more candy the houses hand out. Plus many of these people will be at Halloween parties. So when you see a basket that says take one, take them all. Halloween is only one day of the year and live it up.

(8) Stay out later. If you are accompanied by an adult or near the age of an adult stay out later so you get more candy. Halloween is usually from 6-8 pm, but many houses pass out candy later. And if you are lucky you will find a house with a full basket that they are willing to get rid of at the end of the night.

(9) Have fun and be safe. Halloween is a time to let your alternate personality out while having a good time being safe.

(10) Make time for haunted houses. Many haunted houses are open on Halloween and instead of eating candy right away visit a local haunted house to get the wits scared out of you.

These are my tips in having a safe and fun Halloween. Please use common sense and always go in groups while trick or treating or be accompanied by and adult
